Spring break caution
Make this break a memory, not a regret

Don't forget your sunscreen - a typical warning to those headed to sun and fun (even those in the snow). You will thank yourself in the long run.

Spring break is here and what a wonderful college tradition it has evolved into - a week-long break from classes that results in the need for another week off for recovery.

A typical spring break yields minor incidents such as sunburn or a mild hangover. But it seems that more and more college students are pushing the limits to make each spring break more packed with crazy moments than last year. Perhaps this can be blamed on the hype created through MTV, tour operators and the makers of "Girls Gone Wild," but at 18 to 22 years old, you are responsible for your actions.

So, consider yourself warned on the following:

1. Hot tubs. Not as much fun as they seem once you get in with 15 random people. Plus, you know what they say about STDs ...

2. Guys with video cameras. This means more likely than not, you are being recorded. Make sure you realize that a video of whatever you do could be ordered by your brother's friends.

3. Free happy hours. The booze is cheap and inspires the worst hangovers. Also, you tend to let go of your limits when you're not paying.

4. Water guns. If you are shot with one, it is almost certainly not filled with water. Shower immediately.

5. The pact with your friends that whatever happens on spring break stays on spring break. Once the pictures are developed, the stories will flow.

6. Mixed drinks bought from stands. You have no idea what they put in those or how it will affect you.

7. Sex. You don't know where that's been or what it will leave you. Be careful.

8. Foam parties. Slippery times ... watch your step and stay away from the corners and the back wall.

9. Phone calls. Most likely your cell phone will be on roam and you'll be charged up to $1.00/minute. Better buy a phone card.

10. Police. Just because you think there are no rules during spring break doesn't mean the police do. You can and will be arrested if you are out of line.

Now, go forth and have a wonderful time. Live it up as you only have four to six spring breaks (hopefully!) during college to celebrate.

But we're serious about the sunscreen.
