Thomas Kincaid
Student body officer elections

As student body secretary, my first responsibility would be to my fellow students. That should not be construed, however, as an unwillingness to work with the administration to create mutually beneficial results. I am a team builder, and I will build coalitions of people both inside and outside of student government to get the work of the student body accomplished. I will bring a fresh face to the officer group, but not an inexperienced one. My two greatest priorities are continuing the push for off-campus Pony Express and increasing the amount of money available for student organizations (currently $51.50 per student). I will also work to recruit quality minority students to help enrich the campus life of our university and to enhance communication between the Student Senate and the students we serve. While extremely important, I do not believe this election is solely about those issues: This race is about leadership. It is about electing a person who has the ability and the burning desire to bring people together to make good things happen.

The belief that leadership is the primary issue in this campaign is why I consider my experience and my skills part of my platform. Before I discuss my activities as a member of Senate this year, please know that I am a member of seven other campus organizations.

In Senate, I currently serve as an elected senator, as the vice-chairman of the finance committee, and on the executive committee. As a senator, I have tackled student issues including fighting to make Pony Express available off-campus, working for a safer campus and fighting excessive tuition/fee increases. As the vice-chairman of the finance committee, I continue to work to stretch the limited funds the Students' Association receives from student fees to the maximum when funding student groups. As a member of the executive committee, I continue to work for a more efficient student government and to open better lines of communication between the student body and the administration.

As I said, I am an experienced leader who consistently works to bring people together. I build coalitions because I understand that by working together we achieve a much better result for those we serve and for the issue at hand. In other words, I am a team builder and a team player who gets results.

Thomas Kincaid is a first-year class senator.
