The SMU women's golf team won their season opener at the Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate this past weekend.

Danielle Netschi led the way for SMU, finishing third with a 150, having shot consistent 75's. By her side was her teammate, junior Julie Crooks at a close fifth with a 153. Both Netschi and Crooks had their best finish of the year. Crook's even went so far as to have shot her lowest round in collegiate golf, 72.

Captain Kelle King finished in at 11th with a total round of 158. Following behind and coming in for a tie at 16th were freshmen Missy Ryan and Jennifer Gutknecht.

This tournament strikes as the 'Stangs best in years.

"The lady 'Stangs have been really practicing hard this summer," said head coach Todd Selders. "They went through a series of summer tournaments to take this series by its reigns and hold on for the long hold."

King has been right along Selders to lead the Ponies in for a winning season.

"The key now is to get rid of the 80's," said Selders. "And keep morale up to hit on Fayetteville, Arkansas this Tuesday."
